Weldegebriel Okbe

Germany (EN)

My name is Weldegebriel Okbe. I am an industrial designer from Kassel. I immigrated to Germany from Eritrea with my siblings and my mother at the end of the 1980s. Today, driven by curiosity, my daily passion is to create products that focus on people. At the beginning of my professional career, I completed an apprenticeship as a production mechanic out of an interest in metal as a material. However, I soon realised that I could not live out my creativity in this profession, so I studied product design at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. In the middle of my studies, I ventured into self-employment and was thus able to realise my own visions and projects as a freelancer for independent institutions, start-ups and larger companies.

„Upcycling is an important pillar in establishing a circular economy. In the Global South in particular, it contributes to the preservation of traditional handicrafts, to an increase in the quality of life and creates prospects for young people.“
