Catalina Gómez Alvarez

Germany (DE, EN)

My name is Catalina Gómez Alvarez. I study product design at the University of the Arts and grew up bilingually (Spanish / German) in Berlin. As a designer, I like to work in a transdisciplinary and research-based manner, and I am particularly interested in social structures and developments in society. Ideas arise or grow in cooperation and move between wearable costumes and products to speculative worlds in film. I am currently working on my bachelor's project on climate change and convivialism. During my exchange in Vienna in the English-speaking class of Prof. Anab Jain, I presented my work in the Austrian pavilion of the London Design Biennale. This year, as part of my internship, I was involved as a set designer for a film, together with the decorator Lola Chamot and a French-English speaking team. The film will be shown in March at the “Visions du Réel” festival in Nyon, Switzerland. The resulting works were shown at the Transmediale prelude in Berlin and in the Estación Terrena exhibition venue in Bogotá.

„Upcycling is an important pillar in establishing a circular economy. In the Global South in particular, it contributes to the preservation of traditional handicrafts, to an increase in the quality of life and creates prospects for young people.“
