Mohamed Diakith

Senegal (FR)

I started working as an artist in 1996 in Guinea Conakry. At that time I was making bracelets out of woolen thread and shoes out of tyres. At one point I left and did my training in electricity and I also practiced and maintained computers but each time I thought that my place is to become a great creative artist so I returned to art. I started collecting tyres to make chairs, flower pots, belts and mirrors. I didn't want people burning tyres every time there was a strike. Our health is in danger, the pollution from the tyre smoke is dangerous for us so I started to collect the tyres to make them useful.

„Upcycling is an important pillar in establishing a circular economy. In the Global South in particular, it contributes to the preservation of traditional handicrafts, to an increase in the quality of life and creates prospects for young people.“
