Yacine Faye

Senegal (DE, EN, FR)

My name is Yacine Faye, I am a lawyer specialized in business law and I have a Masters in Legal Engineering and Business Management. I live in Dakar and am particularly interested in local development, sustainable fashion, entrepreneurship and agriculture. I am co-founder of the union “Ucad Start-Up”, which aims at promoting an entrepreneurship spirit among students. For my commitment, I have been granted a scholarship by the, from Barack Obama initiated project “YALI”. In the USA, I was able to strengthen my skills and implement projects that benefit my home country. One of those is “ReCreYASSion”. RE stands for Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The start-up promotes sustainable fashion in Senegal and offers clothing, accessories and decorative items made out of used textiles and scraps of cloth. In this way, raw materials are given a new life. I also offer upcycling workshops and have created a marketplace for used clothing.

„Upcycling is an important pillar in establishing a circular economy. In the Global South in particular, it contributes to the preservation of traditional handicrafts, to an increase in the quality of life and creates prospects for young people.“
