Alassane Diop

Senegal (FR)

My name is Alassane Diop and I upcycle scrap and rubbish. My workshop ''Soweto-Village'' is located in ''Niayes Thiocker'' in downtown Dakar. The raw material is collected by homeless people on the streets of Dakar. Out of it, I create a range of objects such as watering cans, bird cages, jewelry boxes, suitcases, picture frames, etc. I am also very committed in my local community and promote the social and professional insertion of young people from my neighbourhood. I export my works all over the world, mainly to France, Holland, Spain, Australia and the USA.

„Upcycling is an important pillar in establishing a circular economy. In the Global South in particular, it contributes to the preservation of traditional handicrafts, to an increase in the quality of life and creates prospects for young people.“
